Daniel Paul Truax, a resident of Weirton, West Virginia, has entered a guilty plea to charges related to the distribution of fentanyl. Truax, age 46, admitted to selling fentanyl on behalf of a drug trafficking network operating from Chicago to the Ohio Valley, including Weirton, West Virginia.
According to court records, Truax's involvement in the distribution network could lead to a federal prison sentence of up to 20 years. The sentence will be determined by a federal district court judge after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other legal factors.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Clayton Reid and Carly Nogay.
The investigation involved multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Hancock-Brooke-Weirton Drug Task Force, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the United States Marshals Service, the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, the Brooke County Sheriff’s Office, the Weirton Police Department, the West Virginia State Police, and the sheriff’s offices of Jefferson and Steubenville in Ohio.
U.S. Magistrate Judge James P. Mazzone is overseeing the proceedings.
