Mexican and Salvadorian nationals appeared in a Las Vegas court on Monday, charged with illegally re-entering the United States after previous deportations. Heraldo Neftali Gomez-Jacobo, aged 54, and Ismael Perez-Reyes, aged 38, face charges of being deported aliens found in the United States. Preliminary hearings are set for May 5, 2025, before Magistrate Judge Nancy J. Koppe.
Allegations in the criminal complaints indicate that Gomez-Jacobo, an El Salvador citizen, and Perez-Reyes, from Mexico, both entered the U.S. unlawfully after previous deportations. Gomez-Jacobo was transferred to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody on April 5, 2025, after an arrest on a bench warrant. He was deported on October 15, 2003, following convictions for Attempt Lewdness with A Child Under 14.
Perez-Reyes was also turned over to ICE on March 31, 2025, after a DUI arrest and a charge of Allow Child Abuse/Neglect. He was deported on December 7, 2022, and November 8, 2023, and has prior convictions for Possession or Use of a Controlled Substance in a Correctional Facility and Illegal Reentry After Deportation. An active warrant from Utah alleges a probation violation due to illegal reentry.
If convicted, Gomez-Jacobo and Perez-Reyes face potential penalties, including prison terms, fines, and supervised release. The case is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Nevada.
United States Attorney Sigal Chattah and ICE Salt Lake City Field Office Director Michael Bernacke announced the charges. The case was investigated by the ICE Salt Lake City, Las Vegas Sub-Office.
