Dominican national indicted for illegal reentry into the United States

A Dominican national from Lawrence, Massachusetts, has been indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly unlawfully reentering the United States after being deported. Santo Beato Aybar-Aybar faces one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien. He was apprehended on March 23, 2025, and is presently in the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. His federal court appearance in Boston is pending.

According to the charging documents, Aybar-Aybar was previously deported from the United States on or about September 21, 2021. The allegations suggest he reentered the country without permission sometime after his initial deportation.

The charge of unlawful reentry of a deported alien carries a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. Following the completion of any sentence, the defendant is subject to deportation. Sentencing is determined by a federal district court judge based on the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and statutes.

The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston. Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric L. Hawkins from the Major Crime Unit is prosecuting the case.

It is important to note that the details in the charging documents are allegations. The defendant remains presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
