Salvadoran citizen guilty of illegal re-entry into the United States

José Alfredo Jimenez-Centeno, a 72-year-old citizen of El Salvador, has pleaded guilty to illegally re-entering the United States after deportation. The plea, made on April 22, 2025, was for violating Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326(a).

Jimenez-Centeno had previously been deported from the United States on August 20, 1996. Under the law, he faces a maximum imprisonment term of two years, a potential fine of up to $250,000, a supervised release period of up to one year, and a mandatory $100 special assessment fee. Additionally, due to a prior felony conviction, a sentencing enhancement of 20 years could apply.

The United States Customs and Border Protection led the investigation into this case. The prosecution is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Rachal Cassagne and Jon Maestri from the General Crimes Unit.
