Huntington man admits to federal drug charge, faces potential 20-year sentence

On April 28, 2025, Robert Lee Taylor, a 44-year-old resident of Huntington, West Virginia, entered a guilty plea in federal court for the possession of heroin with intent to distribute.

Court documents and statements disclosed that law enforcement officers obtained consent to search a residence in Huntington on March 19, 2025. During the search, they discovered approximately 104 grams of heroin, three digital scales, and plastic bags used for packaging in a storage tote on the property's back deck. Taylor acknowledged possessing the heroin with the intention of distribution. He further admitted to selling nearly 7 grams of heroin to a confidential informant for $491 on the back deck one day prior to the search.

Additionally, a search warrant was executed at Taylor's residence in Huntington on the same day, resulting in the seizure of approximately $8,661. Taylor confirmed the cash was derived from heroin distribution.

Taylor is set to receive sentencing on August 11, 2025. He is facing a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, a minimum of three years of supervised release, and a fine up to $1 million.

Acting United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston announced the plea and praised the investigative work carried out by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Violent Crime and Drug Task Force West.

United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers conducted the hearing, with Assistant United States Attorney Courtney L. Finney leading the prosecution.
