President Donald J. Trump has appointed new members to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Review Council. This group is bipartisan and is tasked with improving and enhancing the nation's approach to emergency management and disaster response.
The council's objective is to ensure FEMA operates with greater efficiency and focus, providing quick and effective relief to Americans in need. Leading this effort are Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, who will serve as co-chairs.
The newly appointed council members include: Greg Abbott, Governor of Texas; Phil Bryant, former Governor of Mississippi; Jane Castor, Mayor of Tampa, Florida; Mark Cooper, former Chief of Staff to Governor John Bel Edwards; Rosie Cordero-Stutz, Sheriff of Miami-Dade County; Evan Greenberg, CEO of Chubb Limited; Kevin Guthrie, Executive Director of the Florida Division of Emergency Management; W. Nim Kidd, Chief of the Texas Division of Emergency Management; Michael Whatley, Chairman of the Republican National Committee; Glenn Youngkin, Governor of Virginia; and Robert J. Fenton, Jr., Region 9 Administrator and former Acting Administrator of FEMA.
The FEMA Review Council was established by President Trump on January 24, 2025, through Executive Order 14180. The council is responsible for providing guidance to the President, through key senior advisors, about FEMA's current disaster response capabilities and suggesting potential improvements. Its mission is to ensure FEMA is able to address domestic disasters effectively while serving the best interests of the nation.
