The first 100 days of the Trump Administration have seen U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins embark on numerous initiatives aimed at supporting the country's farmers and consumers. Secretary Rollins has actively promoted the President's agenda, emphasizing her commitment to putting "Farmers First" at the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
During this period, Secretary Rollins has undertaken visits to 15 states including Virginia, Kentucky, and Texas, among others, to engage directly with producers and observe their operations. This hands-on approach is part of Rollins' broader strategy to bolster agricultural prosperity and efficiency.
Secretary Rollins announced several measures, such as supporting American poultry and egg producers, addressing avian flu, and reducing the cost of eggs for consumers. Her five-point plan to address avian flu has been credited with a 56% drop in the wholesale price of eggs.
In her efforts to address food security, Secretary Rollins has initiated actions to ensure Mexico fulfills its obligations under the 1944 Water Treaty, a move aimed at supporting water needs for Texas farmers and ranchers. Additionally, she has dismissed charges against a South Dakota family involved in a long-standing land dispute.
Trade is another area of focus. Rollins aims to expand market access for American farmers by visiting six countries in the coming months. Domestically, Secretary Rollins is working to increase energy production through expanded access to mining and biofuels programs on federal lands.
Additional initiatives include streamlining regulations and removing bureaucratic hurdles to enhance agricultural productivity, as well as addressing labor cost issues through visa reforms.
Secretary Rollins has also emphasized reducing waste, fraud, and abuse within USDA programs. Her efforts include reforms in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), aimed at ensuring healthier food options and promoting rural prosperity.
"Farmers come first at the United States Department of Agriculture in the Trump Administration," Secretary Rollins stated. Her assertive actions over the first 100 days signal her commitment to revitalizing American agriculture and rural communities.
