Acting United States Attorney Matthew R. Molsen has announced the sentencing of Robert Johnson, a 40-year-old Omaha resident, in federal court for drug and firearm-related offenses. United States District Judge Brian C. Buescher sentenced Johnson to 20 years in prison for possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute, and an additional five years for possessing a firearm during a drug trafficking crime. In total, Johnson faces 25 years of imprisonment. Furthermore, $7,000 was forfeited to the United States as drug proceeds. Upon his release, Johnson will be subjected to five years of supervised release, with no possibility of parole.
The investigation began on January 17, 2023, when the Omaha DEA received an anonymous tip regarding Johnson's involvement in the sale of fentanyl pills and methamphetamine. A federal search warrant was executed at his Omaha residence on April 19, 2023, which he shared with codefendant Whitney Washington. This search resulted in the recovery of methamphetamine, fentanyl pills, a Taurus 9mm handgun, $7,000, and drug trafficking paraphernalia. Investigations revealed that Johnson and Tijuana L. Johnson were coordinating the mail-based distribution of these narcotics from Arizona to Omaha.
Codefendant Tijuana L. Johnson was sentenced on January 29, 2025, to ten years of incarceration following a guilty plea to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl. Additionally, codefendant Whitney Washington received a sentence of 63 months on March 27, 2025, after pleading guilty to similar charges.
This case saw collaboration between the United States Postal Inspection Service and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
