A Fargo man has been sentenced to over four years in federal prison for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Kadar Udai Pearson, 21, received a 51-month sentence from Chief United States District Judge Peter D. Welte. In addition, Pearson will face three years of supervised release. He pleaded guilty to the charges in November last year.
Court documents reveal that on June 5, 2024, officers from the Fargo Police Department were in the vicinity of the Arbors apartment complex following reports of gunshots. They noticed a person, later identified as Pearson, wearing unsuitable clothing for the warm weather, and carrying something seemingly heavier than a phone. As Pearson moved into a backyard without permission, police instructed him to stop. Instead, he fled and was seen discarding what looked like a gun under a parked vehicle. After recovering the item, authorities confirmed it was a loaded SIG Sauer 9mm pistol, reported stolen earlier in Fargo.
At the time of his arrest, Pearson was an inmate on escape status, serving a state sentence for felony convictions related to fentanyl distribution and firearm theft.
This case falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), aiming to curb violent crime and enhance public safety by integrating law enforcement and community efforts.
The Fargo Police Department, in collaboration with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, led the investigation. The prosecution was managed by Assistant United States Attorney Jacob T. Rodenbiker and Trial Attorney Alyssa Levey-Weinstein from the U.S. Department of Justice's Violent Crime and Racketeering Section.
