Vero Beach man sentenced to 12 years for meth distribution

Hayden O’Byrne United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida | The Florida Bar

On April 30, a man from Vero Beach was sentenced to 12 years in federal prison for methamphetamine distribution. Denzil Olajuwon Stewart, aged 30, will also serve five years of supervised release following his prison term. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Donald M. Middlebrooks.

The case centers on an incident from December 28, 2023, when law enforcement officers witnessed Stewart leaving his Vero Beach home in a white Porsche SUV. He traveled to another residence approximately 30 minutes away, where he sold 276.7 grams of pure methamphetamine. The drugs were contained in a plastic shopping bag, which was later found to have Stewart's fingerprints.

A jury found Stewart guilty of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine, as well as distribution of the same quantity.

The announcement of Stewart's sentencing was made by U.S. Attorney Hayden P. O’Byrne for the Southern District of Florida, alongside Special Agent in Charge Deanne L. Reuter of the DEA Miami Field Division, and Indian River County Sheriff Eric Flowers.

The case was investigated by the DEA Port Saint Lucie and the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Christopher Hudock and Michael Porter.
