Day and night, firefighters risk their lives to protect citizens, often facing grave dangers. The National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend in Emmitsburg, Maryland, honors those who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty over the past year.

Thousands will attend this event to honor fallen firefighters, support grieving families, and strengthen bonds. Firefighters across the country demonstrate heroism, risking their lives for others. The nation acknowledges their vital role and the risks they undertake.

American history is marked by moments of extraordinary courage shown by firefighters. The events of September 11, 2001, showcased their bravery during the twin towers attack. Similarly, in January, firefighters battled wildfires in southern California. Such efforts show the dedication and courage of these individuals.

A poignant story highlighted was that of Corey Comperatore, a firefighter who died shielding his family during an incident in Butler, Pennsylvania. His actions exemplify the selflessness and bravery of firefighters in America.

The First Lady and the President express gratitude toward those who serve their communities and country. Firefighters are often seen only in catastrophic situations, yet they remain ready to protect communities every day.

President Donald J. Trump proclaimed May 3 through May 4, 2025, as National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend. On May 4, the U.S. flag will be flown at half-staff at all federal buildings to honor the fallen firefighters.

"IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this first day of May, in the year of our Lord two thousand twenty-five, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and forty-ninth," stated Trump.

"NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim May 3 through May 4, 2025, as National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend."

On May 4, 2025, in accordance with Public Law 107-51, flags at all Federal office buildings will be flown at half-staff in honor of the Memorial Service.

The President and First Lady acknowledge the courage of firefighters and the sacrifices made by families who continue to live with the loss of their loved ones.
