President Donald Trump has announced the formation of the Religious Liberty Commission, marking its inception with an executive order during the National Day of Prayer event. The newly established commission features prominent figures appointed to key positions, with the aim to address and uphold religious freedom in the United States.
Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick will chair the commission. Patrick has previously played a significant role in Texan politics, known for his efforts against critical race theory and promotion of faith-based initiatives within the state. He brings decades of experience from his prior media career and legislative achievements.
Dr. Ben Carson, the former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, has been appointed Vice Chair. Carson is notable for his groundbreaking career in pediatric neurosurgery and his work with the American Cornerstone Institute. His recent publication, "The Perilous Fight," highlights his advocacy for strengthening family foundations in America.
Other members include Ryan T. Anderson, president of the Ethics and Public Policy Center; Bishop Robert Barron of the Diocese of Winona-Rochester and founder of the Word on Fire ministry; and Carrie Prejean Boller, former Miss California USA and author.
Also part of the commission are Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of New York; Pastor Franklin Graham, president of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Samaritan’s Purse; and Allyson Ho, a renowned appellate lawyer.
Dr. Phil McGraw, host of Dr. Phil and bestselling author; Eric Metaxas, noted writer and radio host; and Kelly Shackelford, CEO of First Liberty Institute, add to the diverse backgrounds and expertise within the commission.
Rounding out the panel are Rabbi Meir Soloveichik, leader of the historical Congregation Shearith Israel, and Pastor Paula White, founder of Paula White Ministries and advisor during Trump’s previous term.
These members bring a wide range of experiences and perspectives to the commission, unified by their commitment to preserving religious liberty across the nation.
