This week, the Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Subcommittee conducted an oversight hearing to examine the Federal Bureau of Investigation's (FBI) role in national security and crime prevention. Chaired by Hal Rogers (R-KY) and Committee Chairman Tom Cole (R-OK), the discussion focused on the Fiscal Year 2026 budget request and threats such as drug trafficking, cybercrime, and terrorism. The hearing highlighted bipartisan support for maintaining FBI operations.

Subcommittee Chairman Hal Rogers stated, "I am looking forward to your leadership in tackling some of the most important and dangerous issues that our nation is facing." He emphasized progress in border security under Director Kash Patel's leadership and stressed the ongoing challenges posed by technology advancements in combating crimes like espionage and cybercrimes.

Chairman Cole praised the FBI's mission to protect citizens while upholding constitutional values. He noted the FBI's involvement in Operation Not Forgotten for Indian Country investigations. "The work of the FBI is unmatched," he said, stressing the need for appropriate funding to support these efforts.

Director Kash Patel highlighted various threats addressed by the FBI. "Keeping Americans safe at home and abroad is a no-fail mission," he declared. He mentioned reallocating positions from Washington D.C. to field offices to enhance investigative capacity across 49 field offices.

The hearing underscored Congress' commitment to providing necessary resources for the FBI to protect Americans effectively while ensuring transparency and public trust.
