Jason Douglas MaComber, a 52-year-old resident of St. Albans, West Virginia, has been sentenced to three years in prison for the federal crime of being a felon in possession of a firearm. The sentence will be followed by three years of supervised release.
Court records reveal that on June 12, 2023, MaComber was found with a Remington model 870 Wingmaster 12-gauge shotgun in St. Albans. Under federal law, individuals with prior felony convictions are prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition. MaComber's previous convictions include possession of dangerous drugs/controlled substances in November 2007, possession of a firearm by a felon in June 2014, and illegal firearm transportation in July 2019—all occurring in San Bernardino County Superior Court in California. In total, he has been convicted 20 times.
The shotgun MaComber possessed had an altered and shortened barrel and was not registered as required by federal regulations.
Acting United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston announced the sentencing and praised the efforts of the St. Albans Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for their investigative work.
United States District Judge Joseph R. Goodwin handed down the sentence while Assistant United States Attorney JC MacCallum prosecuted the case.
