U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Chateaugay border crossing have arrested a Canadian citizen with an active arrest warrant from Stuart, Florida. The individual, Sacha Michaud, 49, was apprehended on May 8 while en route to Lake Placid, New York.
During a routine inspection at the primary inspection area, CBP officers identified Michaud through his identification. The National Crime Information Center (NCIC) flagged an active warrant for his arrest. He was then moved to the secondary inspection area where officers confirmed his identity and verified the warrant. Michaud is wanted for probation violation related to an original burglary charge issued by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office in Florida.
Trout River Port Director Virgil Farnsworth commented on the incident: “Our skilled CBP officers effectively leverage national law enforcement resources to identify and apprehend wanted fugitives,” adding that he is proud of their commitment and dedication to safety.
Following confirmation of the warrant, Michaud was handed over to New York State Police and is currently held by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office awaiting extradition.
CBP emphasizes its role as America's frontline defense in law enforcement with over 65,000 personnel dedicated to protecting U.S. borders on land, air, and sea while facilitating lawful travel and trade.
