U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito, Chair of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, led a hearing to consider three nominations by President Trump for key federal positions. The nominees include Sean McMaster for Administrator of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), John Busterud for Assistant Administrator for the Office of Solid Waste at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Adam Telle for Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works.
In her opening statement, Senator Capito introduced Sean McMaster, noting his extensive experience in government service and private sector roles. "Mr. McMaster’s relevant professional experience makes him well-qualified to serve as Administrator," she stated. She emphasized the importance of addressing a backlog of grants at FHWA and expressed hope that McMaster's leadership would expedite this process.
Senator Capito also highlighted John Busterud's qualifications, citing his 31-year legal career in environmental law and military service as a decorated Colonel. She pointed out OLEM's critical role in protecting air, land, and water resources, particularly in addressing PFAS contamination and Superfund site cleanups.
Lastly, Adam Telle was acknowledged for his public service experience with the U.S. Senate and as a Special Assistant to President Trump. His potential role in overseeing water resources development legislation through WRDA was underscored by Senator Capito.
The committee looks forward to working with these nominees if confirmed to lead their respective agencies.
