A Dominican national previously convicted of drug trafficking and deported has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Rhode Island for illegally reentering the United States. This announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom.
Kelvin Roberto Feliz, 54, has been held at the Adult Correctional Institution on an unrelated charge since June 2024. He was ordered deported from the United States in September 2014 after being convicted of trafficking heroin and was removed from the country on July 7, 2015.
It is important to note that a federal indictment is merely an accusation. A defendant remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
This case falls under Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that utilizes the Department of Justice's full resources to combat illegal immigration, eliminate cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect communities from violent crime. The operation coordinates efforts and resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
The prosecution is led by Assistant United States Attorney Paul F. Daly, Jr., with Immigration and Customs Enforcement conducting the investigation.
