The United States and Türkiye have reaffirmed their commitment to enhance cooperation on stability and security in Syria. This decision follows discussions between President Trump and President Erdoğan.
A new round of the Syria Working Group was held in Washington, D.C., with interagency delegations from both nations participating. The U.S. delegation was led by Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau, while Türkiye's delegation was headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Nuh Yılmaz. U.S. Ambassador to Türkiye Thomas Barrack Jr. and Turkish Ambassador to the United States Sedat Önal were also present.
During the meeting, the delegations focused on shared priorities in Syria, including sanctions relief as directed by President Trump and addressing terrorism in all its forms. Both countries envision a stable Syria that coexists peacefully with its neighbors, enabling millions of displaced Syrians to return home.
Furthermore, the United States and Türkiye emphasized the importance of maintaining Syria's territorial integrity. They believe that a stable and united Syria that does not provide sanctuary for terrorist organizations will contribute to regional security and prosperity.
