Guthrie woman pleads guilty to embezzling over $377K from nursing home

Robert J. "Bob" Troester U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Oklahoma

Jessica Dawn Burton, a 53-year-old resident of Guthrie, Oklahoma, has entered a guilty plea for conspiring to commit wire fraud. This development was announced by U.S. Attorney Robert J. Troester.

Burton was charged on May 14, 2025, with conspiracy to commit wire fraud. The charge stems from her employment as a bookkeeper at a nursing home in Hydro, Oklahoma, from August 2022 through November 2023. During this period, Burton allegedly issued checks totaling $377,443.45 from the company’s bank account using the owner’s signature without their knowledge or consent. These unauthorized transactions involved three other conspirators.

On May 19, 2025, Burton admitted in court that she used her position to write checks without permission and acknowledged stealing money from the nursing home. She now faces a potential sentence of up to 20 years in federal prison and a fine that could reach $250,000.

The FBI Oklahoma City Field Office conducted the investigation leading to these charges. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jackson D. Eldridge is handling the prosecution of this case.
