Robert James Levi, a 22-year-old registered sex offender from Minneapolis, Minnesota, faces serious charges in connection with the production of child pornography and the coercion and enticement of a minor. Acting U.S. Attorney Lisa D. Kirkpatrick announced that Levi has been indicted for these offenses.
Court documents reveal that between February 2022 and February 2025, Levi coerced a 12-year-old girl from another state into creating child sexual abuse material and sending it to him over the internet. Posing as a 16-year-old boy, Levi exchanged numerous messages with the victim, leading her to believe they were in a relationship. Despite being convicted of Criminal Sexual Conduct in the Second Degree in Stearns County, Minnesota, in February 2024 and required to register as a sex offender, Levi continued his exploitative actions.
Acting U.S. Attorney Lisa D. Kirkpatrick emphasized the severity of such cases: “Our country is enduring a sextortion epidemic,” she said. She expressed concern for the victims and stated that federal prosecutors have "zero tolerance" for repeat offenders like Levi. If convicted, he could face a minimum of 25 years to life imprisonment.
Special Agent Alvin M. Winston Sr., in charge of FBI Minneapolis, highlighted the dangers posed by online predators: "This case is a stark reminder of the depravity that exists online." He affirmed the commitment of law enforcement agencies to use all resources available to hold those who exploit children accountable.
Levi's detention hearing took place on May 5, 2025, before Judge Elizabeth Cowan Wright in U.S. District Court. He remains in custody pending further legal proceedings.
The investigation was conducted by the FBI, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Kristian C. Weir prosecuting the case.
It is important to note that an indictment is merely an allegation; Robert James Levi is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
