American Farm Bureau Federation President Zippy Duvall has called on President Trump and his advisors to thoroughly review an upcoming White House report. The report, expected to be released this week, is from the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) Commission. Duvall emphasized the importance of basing the report on sound science rather than ideological theories.
"America’s farmers and ranchers are committed to doing the right thing, including producing a safe, affordable and nutritious food supply," Duvall said. He highlighted agriculture's ongoing journey of improvement since the nation's founding and expressed hope that recommendations would be fact-based.
Duvall noted that farmers consume the same food they produce for others and rely on credible science for guidance. While welcoming efforts to improve health outcomes, he warned against limiting farming practices based on unproven theories due to potential severe unintended consequences. "America’s food independence is important," he said, cautioning against changes that could increase reliance on foreign food supplies or reduce access to affordable, nutritious foods.
He further stressed the importance of maintaining public confidence in the food system, which can take a long time to rebuild if lost due to incorrect or incomplete information. "We are counting on President Trump and his advisors to carefully examine the upcoming report to ensure its accuracy and scientific grounding before giving a final stamp of approval," Duvall concluded.
