Ukrop's recalls products over possible salmonella risk

ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

Ukrop’s Homestyle Foods, based in Richmond, Virginia, has initiated a recall of three products following the Bedner Growers’ cucumber recall due to potential Salmonella contamination. The company emphasized that no other products are affected by this recall.

"The products have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems," stated Ukrop's Homestyle Foods. They added that healthy individuals infected with Salmonella might experience symptoms such as fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare cases, it can lead to more severe illnesses like arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis.

The recalled products were distributed at several retailers including Food Lion stores in Virginia and North Carolina; Harris Teeter in Williamsburg, VA; Kroger stores across Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, and Kentucky; Libbie Market in Richmond, VA; and Ukrop’s Market Hall in Richmond. All these retail locations have been informed and are removing the affected products from their shelves.

Consumers who purchased the recalled items are advised to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. For further inquiries regarding the recall process or details about specific products involved, consumers can contact Ukrop’s Homestyle Foods at 804-340-3050 during business hours from Monday to Friday.

Ukrop’s Homestyle Foods was established in February 2010 after selling its supermarket chain but retaining its kitchen and bakery facilities. It continues to supply prepared foods and baked goods throughout the Mid-Atlantic region while operating Catering by Ukrop’s and Ukrop’s Market Hall.
