U.S., allies discuss strategy against CCP at House Select Committee roundtable

This week, the House Select Committee on China engaged in a roundtable discussion with members of the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China (IPAC), an international coalition focused on addressing threats from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The meeting included representatives from several countries, including the United Kingdom, Slovakia, Germany, and the Netherlands. Chairman Moolenaar and Ranking Member Krishnamoorthi led the discussion.

The topics discussed encompassed authoritarian aggression, global trade and security, and support for Taiwan. Chairman Moolenaar emphasized the importance of unity among democracies to counteract CCP strategies: “The Chinese Communist Party is working overtime to divide democracies and exploit the gaps between us," he stated. "That’s why today’s IPAC roundtable is so important."

Dutch Co-Chair Jan Paternotte MP echoed these sentiments by highlighting the significance of transatlantic cooperation: "Authoritarian aggression thrives when democracies are divided," he said. "This joint commitment shows that transatlantic lawmakers are united in defending freedom and resisting CCP influence.”

Following their discussions, both parties signed a joint statement reaffirming their dedication to upholding democratic values against CCP actions. The statement underscores their commitment to strengthening cooperation among democracies in response to challenges posed by China's authoritarian regime.

The document further outlines concerns over China's efforts to undermine democratic institutions through various means such as foreign interference and military aggression. It calls for increased coordination across regions to maintain a peaceful international order based on shared values.

Signatories of this statement include U.S. Representatives such as Chairman Moolenaar (R-Mich.), Ranking Member Krishnamoorthi (R-Ill.), along with Representatives Dunn (R-Fla.), Johnson (R-S.D.), and Newhouse (R-Wash).
