Ismail J. Ramsey, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of California
Esbin Ramirez-Garcia has been sentenced to 90 months in federal prison for aggravated sexual abuse on federal land. The sentence was delivered by Senior U.S. District Judge William Alsup.
Ramirez-Garcia, a 28-year-old Mexican national, pleaded guilty on February 25, 2025, to one count of aggravated sexual abuse under 18 U.S.C. § 2241(a). According to the plea agreement, on August 2, 2024, Ramirez-Garcia offered a ride to the victim, with whom he had a prior relationship. During the ride, he asked her to rekindle their relationship. After she refused and requested to leave the vehicle, Ramirez-Garcia forcibly kept her in the truck.
He then diverted from the intended route and drove to a parking lot in Marin Headlands within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. There, he sexually assaulted her while she was seated in the passenger seat.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Craig H. Missakian, FBI Special Agent in Charge Sanjay Virmani, and National Park Service Investigative Services Branch Acting Special Agent in Charge Betsy Smith.
In addition to his prison term, Judge Alsup imposed a 10-year supervised release period and mandated participation in a sex offense-specific treatment program among other conditions. Ramirez-Garcia was immediately taken into custody following sentencing.
The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Christine Chen and Assistant U.S. Attorney E. Wistar Wilson with assistance from Sara Slattery, Maureen French, and Fernanda Gonzalez. The investigation involved efforts from both the FBI and the National Park Service Investigative Services Branch.
