A Guatemalan national, Marvin Aguilar-Lopez, has pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Portland for illegally re-entering the United States after a prior deportation. Aguilar-Lopez, 24, was stopped by Old Orchard Beach police officers in March 2025 due to a taillight violation. Upon being pulled over, he presented an invalid international license and identified himself as being from Guatemala. Immigration records indicated that he had been previously deported from the U.S. in 2023 and lacked the necessary visa or documentation for re-entry.

Aguilar-Lopez is facing potential penalties including a maximum prison sentence of two years, fines up to $250,000, and up to one year of supervised release. His sentencing will occur following a presentence investigative report conducted by the U.S. Probation Office. The final sentence will be determined by a federal district court judge who will consider the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines alongside other statutory factors.

The investigation into this case was conducted by the U.S. Border Patrol.

This legal proceeding is part of Operation Take Back America, which is described as "a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime." The operation integrates efforts and resources from both the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) and Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN).
