A Guatemalan national has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Boston for unlawfully reentering the United States after deportation. Edilsaro Romeo Mauricio Temaj, 26, faces one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien.
The charging documents state that Mauricio was found in the United States on or about December 14, 2024, after being deported to Guatemala on July 31, 2024.
The charge carries a potential sentence of up to two years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. Following any sentence imposed, the defendant will be subject to deportation. Sentences are determined by a federal district court judge based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and statutes governing criminal cases.
United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston announced the indictment. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lauren Maynard from the Major Crimes Unit is prosecuting the case.
It is important to note that the details in the charging documents are allegations at this stage. The defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
