New Castle man receives prison sentence for drug trafficking

A New Castle, Pennsylvania resident has been sentenced to 70 months in federal prison for his involvement in trafficking fentanyl and fluorofentanyl. Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti announced the sentencing.

Senior United States District Judge Arthur J. Schwab delivered the sentence to Kailin Stewart, aged 38. Stewart had previously admitted guilt to conspiring to distribute over 40 grams of fentanyl and more than 10 grams of fluorofentanyl between May 2021 and October 2022.

The court was informed that Stewart was on state parole in 2022 after being released from a lengthy Pennsylvania state prison term for conspiracy to commit homicide. While on parole, he trafficked between 70 and 100 grams of a mixture containing fentanyl and fluorofentanyl.

Judge Schwab mandated that Stewart's federal sentence be served consecutively to any potential Pennsylvania state parole revocation sentence. Additionally, Stewart will undergo four years of supervised release following his federal imprisonment.

Assistant United States Attorney Craig W. Haller represented the prosecution in this case.

Acting United States Attorney Rivetti acknowledged several law enforcement agencies for their roles in the investigation leading to Stewart's prosecution: "the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, United States Postal Inspection Service, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Lawrence County Drug Task Force, Mercer County Drug Task Force, New Castle Police Department, Sharon Police Department, and Pennsylvania State Police."
