U.S. Attorney General Pamela Bondi has appointed Kyle G. Bumgarner as the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Kentucky, in accordance with 28 U.S.C. § 546. Bumgarner was officially sworn into his new role by U.S. District Court Chief Judge Greg N. Stivers.
“It is the honor of a lifetime to lead the United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Kentucky," said Bumgarner, expressing gratitude to President Trump and Attorney General Bondi for their trust in him during this critical time for the nation. He emphasized commitment to addressing issues such as drug epidemics, violence, fraud, and protecting vulnerable victims through dedicated work alongside federal, state, and local law enforcement officers.
Before assuming his current position, Bumgarner practiced law at Kerrick Bachert, PSC in Bowling Green, Kentucky and served as a law clerk to Judge David Bunning of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky. He holds degrees from Centre College and Northern Kentucky University Salmon P. Chase College of Law.
The role of a U.S. Attorney involves being the chief federal law enforcement official within their district, representing the United States in both criminal and civil litigation matters.
The office he now leads is based in Louisville with additional staffed offices located in Bowling Green and Paducah; there is also an unstaffed branch in Owensboro serving 53 counties across Kentucky along with two military facilities: Fort Knox and Fort Campbell.
The mission of the U.S. Attorney's Office for this district includes prosecuting violations of federal criminal laws fairly and justly while representing U.S interests in civil cases; educating citizens about justice system functions; engaging communities through crime prevention efforts; providing training to law enforcement agencies; fostering cooperation among various law enforcement entities.
