Alison J. Ramsdell U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the District of South Dakota
United States Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell announced that Daniel J. Kubica, also known as "Danny Haddreck," has been sentenced to 24 years in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier. The Niles, Illinois man was convicted of three counts of sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion and one count of money laundering. The sentencing occurred on May 30, 2025.
Kubica will serve his sentence followed by five years of supervised release and is required to pay $400 in special assessments to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
In March 2023, a federal grand jury indicted Kubica on these charges, and he pleaded guilty on February 28, 2025.
Beginning no later than April 2021, Kubica operated an illegal sex trafficking ring involving multiple women around Rapid City. He recruited women for sex acts in exchange for money which he used to support his fentanyl addiction. To maintain control over the women involved, Kubica employed various coercive methods including physical and sexual assaults and threats of further violence if they attempted to leave the operation.
One victim was kept engaged through the provision of money, drugs, and alcohol despite her addiction to these substances. In addition to strangling and threatening a victim and her sister with death, he sexually assaulted another woman to ensure her continued involvement in his operations.
Between January 2022 and October 2023, Kubica utilized CashApp for financial transactions related to his illegal activities. Payments were received from either clients purchasing sex or directly from victims after their engagements.
This case falls under Project Safe Childhood—a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse. This initiative involves collaboration between federal, state, and local resources for prosecuting offenders while identifying and rescuing victims.
The investigation was conducted by multiple agencies including the U.S. Department of Homeland Security – Homeland Security Investigations; Box Elder Police Department; Rapid City Police Department; Pennington County Sheriff’s Office; and South Dakota Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Assistant U.S. Attorney Heather Knox led the prosecution.
Following sentencing, Kubica was placed into custody with the U.S. Marshals Service.
