Ellison C. Travis named acting U.S. attorney for Middle District of Louisiana

Ellison C. Travis has been appointed as the Acting United States Attorney for the Middle District of Louisiana by President Trump, succeeding April M. Leon who held the position since February 2025.

Mr. Travis expressed his gratitude for the appointment, stating, “I am honored that President Trump has appointed me Acting United States Attorney for the Middle District of Louisiana. Our office will work every day with our federal, state, and local partners to execute Operation Take Back America, reduce violent crime, and enforce federal law in our district.”

Prior to this role, Mr. Travis served as Executive Assistant United States Attorney since July 2023. His previous experience includes serving as Acting United States Attorney in 2021 and First Assistant United States Attorney from 2018-2023. He spent over two decades at the Louisiana Department of Justice where he held various roles including Director of the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit and Assistant Attorney General.

Throughout his thirty-five-year career in public service, Mr. Travis prosecuted numerous criminal cases involving violent crimes, financial crimes, and public corruption. He was instrumental in authoring legislation targeting electronic abuse against vulnerable individuals and fraud within public programs.

Mr. Travis holds a J.D. from Louisiana State University’s Paul M. Hebert Law Center and a B.A. in Economics from Louisiana State University.
