U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy has announced that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is looking for a company to lead the development of a new air traffic control system. To encourage participation, Secretary Duffy and the FAA will host Industry Days from June 10-12 at USDOT headquarters.
The FAA has issued a Request for Information to find an integrator who will play a crucial role in executing President Trump and Secretary Duffy's vision for the future air traffic system. "We have an antiquated air traffic control system that is showing its age," said Secretary Duffy. "In order to implement President Trump and I’s plan for a brand new system, we need the technical expertise and management experience from the best innovators in the world."
The initiative aims to enhance safety, reduce delays, and improve reliability for air traffic controllers by replacing the current system with state-of-the-art technology. The FAA seeks innovative ideas, new technologies, and procurement strategies to ensure quick implementation.
"This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for a new, world-class air traffic system," said FAA Acting Administrator Chris Rocheleau. "We need world-class innovators to step up and tell us the best way to build it."
The project involves replacing core infrastructure such as radar, software, hardware, and telecommunications networks. The selected integrator will manage these efforts, including acquiring capabilities and deploying new technologies.
As an initial step, the FAA is gathering information on how best to implement this new air traffic system.
