Guatemalan national faces charges for illegal reentry into US

A Guatemalan national, Mynor Lopez-Lopez, also known as Mynor Alexander Lopez, has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Boston for unlawfully reentering the United States after being deported. The 37-year-old Waltham resident was charged with one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien following his arrest by immigration authorities on May 7, 2025. He is scheduled to appear in federal court in Boston on June 26, 2025.

According to the indictment, Lopez was previously deported from the United States on March 24, 2009. It is alleged that he illegally reentered the country without permission at some point after his removal.

The charge of unlawful reentry carries a potential sentence of up to two years in prison, followed by one year of supervised release and a fine that could reach $250,000. Upon completing any imposed sentence, Lopez would be subject to deportation once again. Sentences are determined by a federal district court judge based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and relevant statutes.

The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Zacks from the Major Crimes Unit is handling the prosecution.

It should be noted that all details provided in the charging documents are allegations at this stage. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
