The United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado has announced charges against Mohammed Sabry Soliman, 45, from Colorado Springs. Soliman faces one count of a hate crime related to race, religion, or national origin.
According to the criminal complaint, on June 1, 2025, at around 2 p.m., Soliman allegedly threw two lit Molotov cocktails at participants in a gathering near the Boulder Courthouse. The event was organized by "Run for Their Lives," which conducts weekly walks to highlight the issue of Israeli hostages in Gaza. During the incident, Soliman reportedly shouted "Free Palestine!" The Molotov cocktails caused burn injuries to eight people.
Further allegations in the complaint state that local law enforcement found fourteen unlit Molotov cocktails and a backpack weed sprayer nearby when Soliman was detained. A vehicle registered to him contained items including a red gas container and materials consistent with those used in Molotov cocktails, as well as paperwork referencing “Israel,” “Palestine,” and “USAID.”
The complaint details an interview where Soliman allegedly admitted to researching how to make Molotov cocktails on YouTube and purchasing ingredients for them. He reportedly expressed intentions to harm individuals he identified as Zionists and stated his desire to stop them from taking over what he referred to as "our land," meaning Palestine. According to the complaint, Soliman claimed he had been planning this attack for a year.
The charges are currently allegations; Soliman is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
The investigation is being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigations Denver Field Office and the Boulder Police Department. The case is prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado along with other divisions within the Department of Justice and coordinated with the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office.
