The Heritage Foundation has expressed approval for the appointment of Dr. Lindsey Burke as Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and Programs at the U.S. Department of Education. Dr. Kevin Roberts, president of The Heritage Foundation, praised Burke's appointment, stating: "This is a landmark victory for American education -- and for the millions of parents fighting to reclaim their God-given right to direct their children’s upbringing." He highlighted Burke's significant contributions to the school choice movement over more than a decade.

Roberts further remarked on Burke's reputation and effectiveness within the conservative movement, noting that her new role underscores President Trump's commitment to restoring local control and academic excellence in education. He added, "The Left may control the teachers’ unions—but we have Lindsey Burke, and we have the parents of this nation."

During her 17-year tenure at The Heritage Foundation, Burke led initiatives on preschool, K-12, and higher education policy and research. Her work has been featured in peer-reviewed journals like Social Science Quarterly and Educational Research and Evaluation. She has also testified before Congress on various educational issues.

Jonathan Butcher, acting director of Heritage’s Center for Education Policy, commented on Burke's leadership skills: "Lindsey is an exceptional leader with an outstanding record of research." He emphasized her dedication to effective conservative policies.

Under Burke's leadership at Heritage, there was a significant push towards educational freedom. Initially limited to a few states, school choice programs expanded considerably during her time with The Heritage Foundation. This expansion is partly attributed to efforts by both The Heritage Foundation and its advocacy arm, Heritage Action for America.

Today, more than half of America's K-12 students have access to school choice options. Parents can refer to the Heritage Education Freedom Report Card for rankings on educational choice across all 50 states.
