Dominican national charged with illegal reentry into the US

A Dominican national has been indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly reentering the United States illegally after deportation. Antonio Gonzales, aged 53, faces one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien. He was arrested on May 7, 2025, and is scheduled to appear in federal court in Boston on June 23, 2025.

According to charging documents, Gonzales had previously been convicted of a felony and was deported from the United States on September 15, 2004. It is alleged that he reentered the country without permission sometime after his removal.

The charge carries a potential sentence of up to ten years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine up to $250,000. Additionally, Gonzales is subject to deportation following any sentence imposed. Sentences are determined by a federal district court judge based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and relevant statutes.

The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston. Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric L. Hawkins from the Major Crime Unit is handling the prosecution.

It is important to note that all details within the charging documents are allegations at this stage; Gonzales remains presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
