A Salvadoran national residing in Chelsea has been indicted for unlawful reentry into the United States. Juan Carlos Gil-Ochoa, 36, was charged with one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien. Immigration authorities arrested him on May 12, 2025.

The indictment states that Gil-Ochoa was deported to El Salvador in April 2013. He allegedly reentered the United States without permission and was encountered by immigration authorities in October 2023.

The charge carries a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. Upon completion of any imposed sentence, Gil-Ochoa is subject to deportation. Sentences are determined by a federal district court judge based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and relevant statutes.
