The House Appropriations Committee has moved forward with subcommittee allocations for Fiscal Year 2026, passing the measure with a vote of 35 to 28. Chairman Tom Cole (R-OK) emphasized the importance of these allocations, stating, “These interim allocations will allow us to begin our work. As we move forward, this Committee is prepared to do the hard work – line by line – to uphold fiscal discipline and effective governance."
Cole outlined the committee's priorities, noting that their approach would "target resources where they are needed most" and focus on safety, security, and high-impact missions. He added that ensuring strong stewardship of taxpayer dollars is essential for charting a responsible fiscal path.
In his remarks, Cole highlighted the need for discipline in discretionary spending while acknowledging that mandatory spending significantly contributes to long-term debt. He stated that discussions about securing America's future prosperity are ongoing across various committees.
The interim allocations include significant funding amounts: $25.523 billion for Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies; $831.513 billion for Defense; $66.361 billion for Homeland Security; and $152.091 billion for Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies.
Chairman Cole concluded by affirming the committee's commitment to advancing an America-first agenda aimed at strengthening national defense and supporting veterans' healthcare.
