U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito, the Chair of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, presided over a business meeting in Washington, D.C., to review nominations for key federal positions. The committee considered Sean McMaster for Administrator of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), John Busterud for Assistant Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Office of Solid Waste, and Adam Telle for Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works.
The EPW Committee favorably reported all three nominations, advancing them to the full U.S. Senate for further consideration.
Senator Capito opened with remarks acknowledging her colleagues' attendance and support for the nominees. She highlighted Sean McMaster's decade-long government service experience in the U.S. House of Representatives and federal agencies, including a recent five-year tenure in private sector transportation companies. "Mr. Master’s relevant professional background, both in the public and private sectors, makes him, I believe, especially well-suited to be Administrator of the Federal Highways Administration," she stated.
John Busterud was noted for his 31 years practicing environmental law and previous role as Regional Administrator for EPA’s Pacific Southwest Region. His military service was also emphasized: "Mr. Busterud also served our country with distinction for 23 years in the U.S. Army."
Adam Telle brings two decades of public service experience within the United States Senate and previously served as a Special Assistant to President Trump. His insights into disaster response were acknowledged by Senator Capito: "Mr. Telle has also seen firsthand how the Army Corps’ response to natural disasters can help communities withstand significant weather events."
Senator Capito expressed confidence in each nominee's ability to lead their respective agencies effectively and urged her colleagues to support their confirmations.
