Honduran national sentenced for illegal re-entry into the United States

A Honduran national, Rossel Geovanny Recinos Arita, was sentenced on June 17, 2025, in New Orleans for re-entering the United States after being previously deported. The sentencing follows Arita's guilty plea to charges of re-entry of a removed alien, violating Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326(a).

Court documents revealed that Arita was discovered in St. Tammany Parish on or around February 24, 2025. He had been deported to Honduras on June 19, 2018. U.S. District Judge Susie Morgan sentenced him to time served.

This case is part of "Operation Take Back America," an initiative by the Department of Justice aimed at addressing illegal immigration and combating cartels and transnational criminal organizations. The operation combines efforts from the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces and Project Safe Neighborhood.

Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson commended U.S. Customs and Border Protection for their investigation efforts in this case. Assistant United States Attorney Paul J. Hubbell from the General Crimes Unit led the prosecution.
