Jerome F. Gorgon, Jr., U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Michigan | Department of Justice
Markiese King, a 31-year-old resident of Detroit, Michigan, faces a six-count indictment as announced by United States Attorney Jerome F. Gorgon Jr. The charges include three counts of interference with commerce by robbery, two counts of use and carry of a firearm in relation to a crime of violence, and one count of prisoner escape.
The indictment details King's alleged criminal activities beginning on May 20, 2025, when he reportedly robbed a Dollar General store in Detroit. During the incident, King is accused of brandishing a firearm and demanding money from the store's employees.
Further allegations state that on May 23, 2025, King committed another robbery at an Advance Auto Parts store in Warren, Michigan. He is said to have threatened the employees and demanded cash.
Between these robberies, King allegedly escaped from the Cherry Health Residential Reentry Center where he was held for a prior conviction. On May 28, 2025, following his escape, King purportedly robbed an AutoZone in Highland Park, Michigan while again wielding a pistol at the staff.
Law enforcement agencies including the Detroit Police Department, Warren Police Department, Highland Park Police Department, along with federal entities such as the FBI’s Macomb County Gang and Violent Crime Task Force and Detroit Violent Crime Task Force collaborated with the U.S. Marshal’s Service to identify and apprehend King swiftly on May 30, 2025. Since then, he has remained in custody.
It is important to note that an indictment serves merely as a formal charge and does not imply guilt. The defendant retains the right to a fair trial where it is incumbent upon the government to establish guilt beyond reasonable doubt.
Assistant United States Attorney Micah Wallace will prosecute this case.
