Honduran man sentenced for using fake ID documents in Iowa

Timothy T. Duax U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Iowa

A Honduran national has been sentenced to 102 days in prison for the unlawful use of fraudulent identification documents. Ramon Calderon-Rivera, 37, pleaded guilty on April 24, 2025, to charges related to the unauthorized use of identification documents.

During his plea, Calderon-Rivera admitted to using a fraudulent Social Security card and a fake California driver’s license. These documents were used to demonstrate his authorization to work in the United States when he filled out employment and tax forms at an Iowa business in November 2023. The Social Security number he used was assigned to another individual. Such documents are legally required for entry or as proof of authorized stay or employment in the U.S.

The sentencing took place in Cedar Rapids under United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams. In addition to the prison sentence, Calderon-Rivera will serve a three-year term of supervised release following his imprisonment. It is noted that there is no parole available within the federal system.
