Treasury Department announces key senior appointments

The U.S. Department of the Treasury has announced several new appointments to senior positions, as confirmed by Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent. John Crews has been appointed as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Financial Institutions Policy. His previous roles include serving as a Policy Advisor to Majority Leader Steve Scalise and Policy Director of the Senate Banking Committee. He also served on the National Economic Council during the first Trump Administration.

Connor Dunn will assume the role of Deputy Assistant Secretary for Legislative Affairs with a focus on banking and finance. Before joining Treasury, he was a Principal at FS Vector and held significant roles on both the Senate Banking Committee and House Financial Services Committee.

Spencer Hurwitz is set to become Deputy Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs, specializing in terrorism and financial intelligence. Hurwitz brings nearly seven years of Capitol Hill experience and recently worked with United States Senator Marsha Blackburn.

Ashtyn Landen has been named Deputy Executive Secretary. She previously served as Senior Director for Prudential Regulation at the American Bankers Association and began her career in public service at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.

Paras Malik will serve as Counselor to the Secretary and Chief AI Officer. Malik joins from Boston Consulting Group with extensive experience advising clients in strategy and innovation. Her past roles include Executive Director at Morgan Stanley.

Zach Mollengarden is appointed Deputy Executive Secretary focusing on international affairs. He previously worked as an Attorney Advisor within Treasury’s Office of International Affairs.

David O’Brien takes on the role of Deputy Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs covering domestic finance, having formerly led executive communications at the Bipartisan Policy Center.

John Poulson will serve as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Legislative Affairs concerning international affairs. His background includes work with Senate Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs Committee and previous roles in House leadership.

Shane Shannon becomes Counselor to the General Counsel after his tenure at Goldman Sachs & Co., where he advised on investment product regulation.

Cory Wilson assumes duties as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Cybersecurity and Critical Infrastructure Protection (OCCIP). His recent position was with United States Secret Service leading efforts in critical systems protection against cyber threats.
