A former federal probation officer, Lonnie Everill, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for receiving child sexual abuse materials. Everill, aged 46 and from Water Valley, Mississippi, pleaded guilty to one count of receiving child pornography on January 14, 2025.
Court documents revealed that Everill was investigated after engaging in online chats expressing a sexual interest in children. Investigators found images and videos of prepubescent minors engaged in sexual conduct on his account. Over four months, he sent and received numerous images and videos of child sexual abuse material.
Everill's career as a probation officer focused on the rehabilitation and supervision of sexual offenders across Utah, California, South Carolina, and Mississippi. U.S. District Judge Dan Jordan sentenced him to 120 months in federal prison for possessing over 1,400 images. He was also ordered to pay $3,000 in restitution to the victims depicted in the images and an additional assessment of $10,000. Everill must comply with restrictions on access to children and the internet and register as a sex offender.
U.S. Attorney Clay Joyner commented on the case: “Everill’s betrayal of trust has been truly staggering.” He praised the prosecution led by AUSA Parker King and FBI Supervisory Agent Ryan Berthay for uncovering Everill's crimes.
Special Agent Robert Eikhoff from the FBI Jackson Field Office stated: “The conduct of this former law enforcement officer was beyond shocking and a gross betrayal of public trust.”
The case was part of Project Safe Childhood by the Department of Justice aimed at combating child sexual exploitation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Parker S. King prosecuted the case.
