U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito, Chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, expressed her support for the passage of a Republican reconciliation bill in Washington, D.C. The legislation, backed by Chairman Capito, has been approved by the Senate and will now proceed to the U.S. House of Representatives.
Chairman Capito commented on the development, stating: "Today, the Senate moved President Trump’s agenda forward and acted on the mandate given to Congress by the American people. Included in this bill are provisions I worked to craft through the EPW Committee that will lower energy costs for American families, return remaining taxpayer dollars spent recklessly by Democrats, and create more efficiency for infrastructure investments into our communities."
The legislation includes several measures aimed at enhancing American energy production and reducing unnecessary spending. It halts the Inflation Reduction Act's natural gas tax for ten years to provide stability for energy producers while encouraging domestic production. Additionally, it rescinds unspent funds from initiatives under EPW's jurisdiction deemed duplicative or lacking oversight.
Another significant aspect is the repeal of the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund with all unobligated funds being withdrawn. The bill also introduces an opt-in fee program through the Council on Environmental Quality designed to expedite environmental reviews under existing policies.
