U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers stationed at the Colombia-Solidarity Bridge in Laredo, Texas, have seized methamphetamine valued at over $513,000. The interception was announced by Port Director Alberto Flores, who praised the efforts of CBP officers. "This methamphetamine interception is a testament to the skill and commitment of our CBP officers at the Colombia-Solidarity Bridge," he stated. "Their dedication to our border security mission continues to disrupt the operations of transnational criminal organizations and protect our communities from the dangers of illicit narcotics."
The incident took place on Friday, June 27, when a CBP officer directed a 2011 Toyota Sienna for further inspection. A canine unit and nonintrusive inspection system scan led to a physical search of the vehicle. Officers discovered 14 packages containing approximately 55.86 pounds of alleged methamphetamine within the driver's personal belongings.
The street value of the seized narcotics is estimated at $513,692. Following this discovery, CBP confiscated the drugs and Homeland Security Investigations special agents are conducting an investigation into the seizure.
