The American Petroleum Institute (API) has expressed approval following the U.S. Senate's passage of the 2025 tax reconciliation bill. API President and CEO Mike Sommers commented on the development, stating, "We applaud the Senate for passing the One Big Beautiful Bill to bolster America’s energy advantage and support economic growth." He added that this legislation is expected to promote energy dominance by creating investment opportunities, initiating lease sales, and increasing access to oil and natural gas development.
Sommers emphasized API's commitment to collaborating with policymakers to advance the legislation to President Trump's desk. The API represents various sectors of the U.S. natural gas and oil industry, which supports nearly 11 million jobs nationwide. The organization is supported by a grassroots movement comprising millions of Americans.
With approximately 600 members, API is involved in producing, processing, and distributing most of the nation's energy. It also participates in API Energy Excellence, a program aimed at enhancing environmental and safety standards through new technologies and transparent reporting. Established in 1919 as a standards-setting body, API has developed over 800 standards to improve operational safety, efficiency, and sustainability.
