Chadwick Elgersma has been appointed as the Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin. "I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the people of Wisconsin in this role," said Mr. Elgersma. He emphasized his commitment to maintaining safety through enforcing federal law and protecting national security. His focus will also include addressing illegal immigration, drug flow, financial and violent crime, gang activity, child predators, and advocating for civil interests.
Elgersma's background includes growing up in Waupun, Wisconsin, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in accounting from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, and earning a Juris Doctor from DePaul University College of Law in 2005. He joined the FBI as a Special Agent in 2006 before moving to the U.S. Attorney’s Office as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney in 2017 and later becoming an Assistant U.S. Attorney in 2019.
In his previous role as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, Elgersma prosecuted various criminal cases such as interstate drug conspiracies, firearms offenses, robberies under the Hobbs Act, child exploitation cases, complex white-collar frauds including government program frauds and tax evasion, arson incidents, and immigration-related offenses.
As Acting U.S. Attorney, Elgersma will oversee federal criminal prosecutions and civil litigation involving the United States within the Western District of Wisconsin which covers 44 counties.
