Mississippi man sentenced for impersonating deputy U.S. Marshal

A Mississippi man has been sentenced for impersonating a deputy United States Marshal. William Gilchrist, from Greenville, Mississippi, received a sentence of three years probation and a $4,000 fine. The sentencing was carried out by United States District Judge Susie Morgan on June 24, 2025.

The case against Gilchrist arose from an incident on or about June 19, 2024. According to the indictment, he falsely claimed to be a Fugitive Task Force Officer with the United States Marshals Service. This action violated Title 18, United States Code, Section 912.

Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson announced the sentencing and acknowledged the efforts of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office and Homeland Security Investigations in handling the investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Paul J. Hubbell of the General Crimes Unit led the prosecution.
