A Wasilla man has been sentenced to 50 years in federal prison for the kidnapping and sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl in November 2022. David Anderson, aged 52, will also spend the rest of his life on supervised release following his imprisonment.
Court documents reveal that the victim was abducted after exiting a school bus in Wasilla. Anderson coerced her into his vehicle at gunpoint, covered her head with a blanket, and restrained her hands with duct tape. He then drove to a remote location where he sexually assaulted her before firing shots at her and leaving her in the woods.
The victim managed to free herself and sought help from a passing vehicle. Anderson was arrested by Alaska State Troopers later that day based on descriptions provided by the victim.
Further investigation showed that Anderson had premeditated intentions to commit the crime and was already a convicted sex offender due to an earlier conviction for sexually assaulting a minor in 2000.
On January 13, 2025, Anderson pleaded guilty to charges including kidnapping a minor and committing an offense as a registered sex offender. U.S. Attorney Michael J. Heyman highlighted both "the depravity of Anderson’s conduct" and "the bravery of the survivor."
In addition to federal charges, Anderson faced state-level charges resulting in an 85-year sentence imposed by the State of Alaska Department of Law on October 7, 2024.
Alaska State Trooper Colonel Maurice Hughes stated that combined sentences ensure "this violent man will never be released back into our community." Special Agent Rebecca Day from the FBI Anchorage Field Office commended the young survivor's courage and acknowledged law enforcement's efforts in bringing justice.
The case was investigated by both the FBI Anchorage Field Office and Alaska State Troopers with assistance from the FBI's Joint Child Abduction Rapid Deployment Team (J-CARD). The team is equipped with specially trained personnel experienced in child abduction cases.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Chris Schroeder and Adam Alexander led the prosecution against Anderson.
