Kevin P. Davidson, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Alabama
Acting United States Attorney Kevin Davidson announced that Taboris Ladale Mock, a 33-year-old resident of Montgomery, Alabama, has been sentenced to 14 years in federal prison for illegally possessing firearms as a convicted felon. The sentence was issued by a federal judge on July 1, 2025, following Mock's guilty plea to two counts of unlawful firearm possession. In the federal system, parole is not available.
Court records indicate that on September 28, 2024, at approximately 3:25 a.m., deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of gunfire in a parking lot on Wetumpka Highway. Witnesses reported seeing up to six individuals exchanging gunfire after an altercation.
Surveillance footage showed Mock firing a handgun toward a vehicle before fleeing the scene. Investigators later found 24 spent shell casings at the location. It was also discovered that someone inside the vehicle had been taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound and later died from their injuries.
On October 23, 2024, agents executed a search warrant at Mock's residence in Montgomery and found a 9mm handgun. Due to his previous felony convictions, Mock is prohibited under federal law from possessing firearms or ammunition. He pleaded guilty to both charges on April 1, 2025.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime through collaboration between law enforcement and communities. The Department of Justice revitalized PSN in 2017 to focus on targeting violent criminals by partnering with various levels of law enforcement and local communities.
The investigation involved the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, and Montgomery Police Department. Assistant United States Attorneys Mark E. Andreu and Michelle R. Turner prosecuted the case.
